Hello folks, and thanks for checking in.
The Peter Hostage Situation played at the Swing Dance Network dance on Sat. night, and we had a great time! Over 200 dancers swinging to the band, which was in top form. Someone in the audience shot video of one song, and said it should be on You Tube shortly. We are doing another one at Swing City on Nov. 21st.
My myspace page is up, so check it out at
www.myspace.com/peterhostage. I have the nimbit omt set up so visitors can listen to any tune.
I recieved a check from BMI last week, seemingly out of the blue! Apparently I had two songs played on TV shows last January, and never even knew. Of course, it's OK because I'm getting paid! One tune, "Peach Grove," written to sound like an Allman Bros. tune was played on
Dateline NBC. Another, "Hard Time," a blues guitar tune was played on Oxygen's
Bad Girls Road Trip, on an episode called "Tranny Trouble." I'm sorry I missed that one! I have over thirty songs that I've written and recorded for music libraries, and these are the first placements, with (hopefully) many more to come.
One last note. The world will miss drummer Earl Palmer, one of the most recorded (if not the most recorded) drummers of all time. Earl died last week. He originally made his mark in New Orleans playing on all of that great stuff in the 50's and early 60's. That's him with that great intro to Fats Domino's "I'm Walkin'." He also played on Little Richard's hits "Long Tall Sally," "Tutti Frutti," and others; Richie Valens "La Bamba," and Sam Cooke's "You Send Me." The list goes on: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "River Deep, Mountain High," and sessions with Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt and BB King. He was also Frank Sinatra's favorite drummer, and played on many sessions for TV and movies, including "Mission Impossible," "Green Acres," and "The Odd Couple." He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Mr. Palmer was 83.
