I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water

“I’d Rather Drink Muddy Water” - By Eddie Miller.

There were a number of blues artists and song writers named “Eddie Miller.” This one recorded between 1929 and 1934. He played a honky tonk style of blues piano, but he is not to be confused with Eddie “Honky Tonk” Miller, who was British and also recorded in the 30’s. Little is known about this man who owns the copyright to this lyric, except it isn’t the songwriter named “Eddie Miller” who wrote “Please Release Me” and other country hits. It is known, however, that he did perform some duets with Big Bill Broonzy. There are many versions of “Muddy Water.” Some of the best known are by Lou Rawls, Joe Williams, Little Milton, Jay McShann, Aretha Franklin and Steve Cropper.
